Lab Tech

I have a 1 year position available for a lab tech. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone interested in going to grad school who wants additional lab experience. You should have solid lab experience in a Molecular Biology lab. You will support ongoing projects in the lab related to quality control in ribosome biogenesis. Familiarity with handling nucleic acids and running gels is essential. If you are interested, contact Arlen himself.

Graduate Students

I am not taking any additional graduate students.

Undergraduate Students

Projects: Various projects related to ribosome biogenesis and transport using fluorescence microscopy, yeast molecular genetics and biochemical techniques.

Most molecular research is time and labor intensive. You should be willing to commit three long semesters and work 12-15 hrs/week. Research projects are not guaranteed to work the first time and sometimes not at all. Success depends on perseverance and hard work. But laboratory research can also be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have as an undergraduate. A number of students from my lab have been coauthors on papers and have gone to graduate school or medical school.
